1/8th Mile Doorslammer Round for Portland

Drag racing legend and current Australian No. 5 Top Doorslammer driver Peter Kapiris made the drive down from Melbourne last
weekend to Portland's South Coast Raceway to check out the race track and check over the progress of the current track upgrades.

The former Australia Champion was very excited about the prospect to bringing a round of the Australian 1/8th Mile Doorslammer
series to Portland next year.

Earlier this year they ran the first ever 1/8th Mile Doorslammer event in Mildura which attracted over 5500 people into the Sunraysia District.

"We were just blown away by the support of the Mildura City Council, the SDRA and from the public for this event" said Kapiras,
"the town was rewarded for their support with people coming from all over Australia including Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and
everywhere in between to watch".

Kapiras was very impressed with the progress of the upgrades and said that the likelihood of running an event in Portland next year
is very high.  "The South Coast Drag Racing Association is doing a fantastic job and just need a little extra support to get the track
up to the standards we would require and we will be there" Kapiras said.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the club and the Portland community"  said club president Doug Hetherington.  "this would be the first event of its kind ever run in Western Victoria and a chance to fill very hotel and motel in town. These drivers currently only race in
Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and to have the chance to get them in Portland is unbelievable".

For the first time ever in Western Victoria names such as father and son team mates Victor and Ben Bray from Queensland,
Sydney-siders Maurice Fabietti, and Sean Mifsud and Victorian Peter Kapiris and others could be teaming up to bring the loudest
show on earth to town in what would be a spectacular event.

While Top Doorslammers may resemble easily identifiable car bodies as represented by the Holdens, Chevs and Studebakers,
the massive power plant hanging out of the bonnet is a dead give-away that these cars are a bit more than your average motor
vehicle. That 3000 horsepower engine can propel these cars up to 320 kph over the eighth mile with elapsed times in the
high three-second range.

The Top Doorslammers would welcome local schools and the general public to the venue for the opportunity to get a close-up look
at the cars, meet the drivers, grab some autographs, take photos with their heroes and bag some souvenirs!

The Top Doorslammer show would be supported by Supercharged Outlaws bracket as well as Super Sedan, Modified Bike,
Super Street and other sportsman categories.
